Chan Poker
UPDATE: Johnny Chan Poker has announced that they are closing it’s doors.
Their website had this message. “We are sad to inform you that Chan Poker will be ceasing operation effective this Thursday, August 21, 2008. Effective immediately we will no longer be accepting deposits. On August 21 our poker clients will be disabled.”
Chan Poker is one of the newest rooms to come out on the OnGame Network. Since initial launch they have been seeing a steady stream of traffic which could be related to the fact that it is owned and managed by Johnny Chan who is one of the world’s most well known and highly respected professional poker players or that they are giving away the largest poker bonus online. Currently players are receiving a top bonus of 100% match up to $1000. The room features quality graphics, good tournament line up and so far a steady flow of ring game players.
Currently Chan Poker is provides players with one of the largest sign up bonuses available online. The current bonus is a 100% match up to $1000. This bonus can be cleared at a rate of 7 points for every $1 redeemed in bonus money. Chan Poker bonuses are released in increments of $10. Other key benefits include the Chan Poker School where players can read strategy articles covering the fundamentals or poker from Johnny Chan himself.
Competition at Chan Poker is still relatively new but they are on the On Game Network which means that some of their main traffic does come from those rooms as well. On average you can expect to find the low stakes to have some very loose players with competition increasing as you increase stakes. The average viewed flop percentage in the low stakes is in the 56% area.
Ring games are supported in your regular varieties including Texas Holdem, Omaha, and Stud. The only thing with the OnGame Network is the action at the tables is a little slower than other rooms which means less hands will be played per hour.
The majority of the players stick to the Holdem tables even in peak hours but that does not mean you won’t find any action in Omaha. Stakes begin at the lower end of limit with at $0.10/$0.20 up to $50/$100. During this review we seen the majority of the players situated at the $10/$20 and lower. During peak hours you really shouldn’t have too much difficulty finding higher limits. Chan Poker takes a set rate of 5% for rake from each pot with a cap set at $3.
The tournaments provided are fit for any bankroll and Chan does offer some high stake buyins. Currently the room features freezeouts, re-buys, turbo and double stack tournaments all available in Holdem, Omaha and Stud. One of the key assets this room has with being in the OnGame group is the ability to sustain traffic at any time of the day which is why at peak hours the room easily attracts over 20,000 players in the real money tournaments. The buyins typically start at $1 and can climb to a couple hundred with qualifiers hosted for the large guaranteed games. Some of the main featured tournaments include a weekly $100,000 GP, the Euro GP and a special $50,000 GP which is suited for the high stake player with buyins set at $1000.
The software is fast, functional and offers some clean graphics. Chan Poker offers an instant play along with a download client. The software is identical to the Poker Room client with the same layout in tables and lobby. You will be provided with an easy to use interface, very simple navigation. You will be able to access in lobby stats such as viewed flop percentage and chip stack although these stats are only available by clicking on each room individually. Your stats will then be displayed to you right in the game info box. Players can multi table in a full screen mode with no other option available at this time.
Support is available daily with email as the only option at this time. Response time is quick and efficient and the team will help you with any questions you may have about the room or even payment methods.
